PORRO COLLECTION 2025 / Francesco Rota Interview

“The biggest challenge was to design two sofas for Porro, on the year of his hundredth anniversary. The name Moulage derives from a tailoring technique to build clothes directly on the mannequin. It is used to drape, then fold, build folds directly on the mannequin from which the pattern to make the final model is derived. There is this beautiful fold that follows the armrest and is fixed by three stick basting stitches that give it its unique character.

Tobu is characterized by a series of panels that are mounted as both backrest and armrest. They have a distinctive shape: it is very thin and resembles the airfoil. We dedicated great care to the aspects of comfort and upholstery. I believe that the comfort in a sofa is an essential part, because when you return home, you should feel embraced by your alcove. What I drew corresponds a little to Porro's attitude which is not to shout, not to be noisy without ever forgetting the contemporary.”
