Following the success of Casa Italiana, INTERNI magazine renews its collaboration with ITA – Italian Trade Agency and returns to New York with a new exhibition dedicated to the excellence of Italian design, on the occasion of NYCxDESIGN (14–20 May) and “Italy on Madison” (12–15 May).
The exhibition, entitled “Design: The Theater of Excellence”, is staged at the ITA headquarters at 33 East 67th Street, a prestigious residence once owned by Jacqueline Bouvier. Curated by OTTO Studio - Paola Navone and Cristina Pettenuzzo, the project stands as a refined tribute to Made in Italy and its ability to express scenographic products recognized worldwide.
“This year, our project is a tribute to the tradition of Italian theater” - explain the designers of OTTO Studio, Paola Navone and Cristina Pettenuzzo. “Just like in a theater, a grand curtain welcomes visitors into the headquarters of the Italian Trade Agency in New York, marking the beginning of the exhibition journey. The excellence of Made in Italy takes shape through scenographic sets inspired by the visual codes of theater and photography, and each scene interprets an iconic place in our country, conveying a message like a postcard”.
In the set dedicated to Milan, Porro presents an emblematic piece of its design vision: the Romby chair, designed by GamFratesi, featuring a black-stained ash wood base and a padded red wool-cloth seat, the result of meticulous craftsmanship. In the version with a natural ash wood base, Romby instead enhances the postcard-inspired set of Venice, conceived as a dressing room, where the Origata console, designed by Nao Tamura, also appears, made of glossy fire-red lacquered aluminum.
The exhibition is inaugurated on May 12, 2026, by invitation only, and it officially opens to the public from 13 to 15 May.
The exhibition served as the stage for ITA’s activations as part of the Italy on Madison program, guiding visitors through a journey dedicated to Italian design until mid-July, by appointment only.
