Family of containers Linea

15.06.23

Explosion of color, pure energy, patchwork of inlaid surfaces in cellulose acetate: from an accurate research work in the Alessandro Mendini Archive conducted together with Fulvia and Elisa Mendini, to the rediscovery of pieces with a timeless design not yet edited, Porro brings to light 3 new surprising cupboards.
An open cupboard with open module and drawer, a close cupboard with 2 hinged doors and a writing desk with drop-leaf writing desk and internal partition, raised on a dark base, they share full parts with geometric optical motifs juxtaposed with colored empty spaces.

These 3 new objects, edited in a limited edition of 50 pieces each, speak of a free use, outside the standards and logics of industrial production, all to be imagined in everyday life.

“Our father has always been fascinated and interested in high craftsmanship: a thing that he found in Porro on the occasion of their first experience together in 2014-15, for the realization of Maggio chest of drawers and Schermo cupboard. There he had played with the absence of color, or actually with the color of the natural wood essences, which was something that he liked so much. This time Lorenzo and Maria Porro wanted to do a tribute to dad, trying to show what was perhaps the most important figure of his work, where color has always been the protagonist. We identified in the Alessandro Mendini archive some drawings that had a very advanced level of design. These pieces of furniture are really very faithful to the original design, we are really happy for this collaboration”. - Fulvia and Elisa Mendini

With the chromatic exuberance typical of Alessandro Mendini's design, Linea perfectly expresses all the ingredients of a Porro object: geometric purity, accurate workmanship and technological details.

It is a family of containers characterized by an inlaid front in red, blue, light blue, yellow and white, made deeper by black: a depth that the lacquered color could not give. This is why we looked for an alternative solution and found a producer of cellulose acetate plates, the material used for glasses, which is also suitable for making the pointed geometries of these decorations. For these sideboards we also had to provide a particular fastening system, experimenting with different solutions – Maria Porro, head of marketing and communication of 4th generation of the founding family of Porro S.p.A..
