2020 news

Porro's never-ending research efforts on shapes, materials and technologies, performed side by side with its Art Director, Piero Lissoni, result in new evolutions of the modular systems, that are increasingly becoming true living space architectures. From the electrification that is embedded in the system, thus entirely eliminating wires and making light the protagonist, to the development of special mechanisms that allow doors to move and close – turning into doors to secret rooms and backstage – up to the introduction of new materials: this year’s research focuses on utmost flexibility and visual purity, for unique and unrepeatable bespoke solutions to be designed every time with the end customers according to their individual and personal desires.
At the same time, Porro combines its expertise with the creative energies of designers, in an exchange between cultures and styles that enriches the brand’s collections with new classics and future icons. The concept of luxury is redefined by sobriety, rigour and continuous experimentation on designs and finishes, resulting in items that are on the borderline between art, decoration and design.

ROMBY, designed by: GamFratesi

Geometric allure and retro-styled design are the key elements of the new Romby armchair by GamFratesi, with its abstract charm. The truncated cone base in solid ash wood, natural or black stained, whose flared shape is obtained through slices made with great cabinet-making skills, is connected to a soft and compact padded swivel seat covered in leather and fabric. Perfect in a dining room or in a working environment with a cosy atmosphere, as well as a stand-alone element, Romby is a cocoon armchair with impeccable proportions and workmanship, which embraces the body while leaving it free to move, enveloping it with a feeling of great lightness. A project that fits perfectly into the Porro universe, which has always been characterised by minimalist designs and great craftsmanship.

MATERIC, designed by: Piero Lissoni

The Materic table designed in 2017 changes its face thanks to an upside-down assembly, where the black stained ash usually used for the base is now used for the top, a dark veined surface only interrupted by the central flush tray, and the conical base is expertly made in metal, stainless steel. The result has an extraordinary visual impact, between glamor, industrial and futurist.

PASCAL, designed by: Piero Lissoni

With its aerial yet extremely robust sections, the Pascal table adapts its look to suit the personal taste of those who choose it for their home, a restaurant or an office. The marble top, contrasting with the industrial wing structure in die-cast aluminium, shows its luxurious soul while remaining loyal to Porro’s minimalist style and contemporary look.

BYRON, designed by: Piero Lissoni

Fascinating lifestyles, special finishes, concrete emotions: Porro brings its very personal style to the bedroom as well. A textile bed with an intimate and compact shape, Byron consists of 3 elements: the padded bed frame slightly raised from the floor, the soft headboard cushions where you can linger reading before falling asleep, and the screen at the bottom of the bed that seems to embrace the space and protect the rest. The lines are soft, the edges rounded, with the sophisticated detail of the screen with a black-stained solid ash frame that encloses a straw weave featuring a graphic black and white houndstooth pattern, in a balance between contemporaneity and memory, concrete and abstract.

MODERN, designed by: Piero Lissoni + CRS

In the Modern cabinet day system, this year’s research focuses on the idea of “all full”, to create entire equipped walls that perfectly blend into the architecture and are used for storage, but – when necessary – open up to reveal secret niches.
The large Modern hanging composition is combined with a Verde Rameggiato marble Roc board, with the visual effect of an entirely closed and tightly-packed wall, reminiscent of the traditional Japanese home. An architectural solution with a strong scenic appeal that offers maximum capacity and utmost customisation.
This large storage area in black sugi is enlivened by the nice graphic interplay of the doors made of heat-treated oak, in contrast with the verde gris shade chosen for the interiors of the glass cabinets – with a metal frame painted in the same colour –which emerge as contemplative voids in the composition.
Perfectly hidden behind the vertical sliding door in black stained canneté, available in the sizes 1200x 1400 and 1600 x 1800 mm, the TV compartment pops up only in moments of leisure.
In the detailed view, black sugi interiors and Porro pin hinge designed to elegantly conceal the movement.

SYSTEM, designed by: Piero Lissoni + CRS

For 2020, the System bookshelf and equipped wall system changes its look through a new material and handcrafted design, i.e. the woven straw inserted on the back of the Grande Luce module. As a precious traditional material reinterpreted in a modern minimalist key, straw becomes officially part of the range of Porro materials and for the back panel of the System Grande Luce module it is available in 4 versions in 3 colours – black, sand and linen – for a total of 12 designs.
The large System composition in eucalyptus wood combines an elegant and convenient base element with drawers with a long shelf on top, where you can place your TV set and various objects as you wish or sit comfortably on the optional quilted leather cushion, an empty space in the middle with a back panel covered in woven straw – featuring a delicate and non-invasive texture that perfectly matches wood – and the transparent glass elements with an iron frame above, perfect for displaying rich collections inside. The LED lighting creates a magical interplay of light and shadow, enhancing the impact of this small piece of home architecture.
