Porro design in New York's legendary art deco twin towers

Interior design by Stamberg Aferiat + Associates, in collaboration with West I Out East

Porro’s architectural spatiality and rich palette of materials and colors enter the legendary Art Deco Twin Towers overlooking Central Park West, thanks to the unconventional interior design project born from the collaboration between the West | Out East showroom, a reference point for the Italian brand in the Big Apple, and the famous design studio Stamberg Aferiat + Associates, led by Paul Aferiat and Peter Stamberg. Prominent figures in the New York cultural scene since the Eighties, known for their exuberant and hyper-colored pop-style architecture and interior design, they were asked by a couple of clients to renovate their apartment after the departure of their youngest son for college: the opportunity to take a decidedly non-conservative direction and give a breath of fresh air to their living spaces, knocking down walls to create an open space with character. The living area dedicated to relaxation and conviviality, inhabited by iconic pieces of Italian design, is marked by a central totem by Porro, where a classic like the Load-It bookcase by Wolfgang Tolk is mixed with hanging elements and bases of the Modern system by Piero Lissoni. Thanks to the wide possibilities of customization offered by the brand, the project creates a unique product completely customized, in a riot of essences, materials and colors. The Modern system, the first born from a square module, with a hanging composition alternating open to closed containers, integrates perfectly with the Load-It bookcase with its thin shelves that float in the air, creating a true architecture within a space, which is echoed by another Modern + Load-It composition on the wall behind the sofa. A visual game in which materials and colors intertwine, passing from the steel of the Load-It wall panels and shelves to the bright lacquered interiors of Modern in amaranto, arancio fiamma, verde spring, giallo zolfo, tortora, up to the warm Eucalyptus wooden essence: a set of clear and essential signs defined by the rigor of the forms, the quality of the finishes and functionality, to offer versatility and a touch of liveliness to everyday life.
