«We are launching this new shelving unit called Ryo. In Japanese, it means “edge.”
You know when you fold paper—that line is called ryo.
It is made from a single sheet of metal, and when it is folded, something flat and fragile becomes a structure. I have been very interested in balance in design lately. I think the triangular shape that forms, if you look at it from one side, is sharp and has maybe a little bit of tension. But if you look at it from the other side, it is flat, stable, and solid.
It plays with solid and void, with light and shadow, with positive and negative: that’s why I like the balance in this shelving unit. When you repeat this element, it creates a kind of rhythm in the space. It is furniture, but it can also shape the space itself».
