Private Villa - Connecticut (USA)

Info

A Porro design has been chosen, on account of the rigour of its form and its geometric approach, to furnish a villa in Connecticut designed in 1966 by Marcel Breuer, one of the greatest masters of Modernism.
The building is known as Stillman II, and was completed when the Bauhaus architect, who was born in Hungary but moved to the USA, was entering a period in which he used predominantly natural materials. With its U-shaped plan, the villa stands charmingly on a slope towards the south, to capture the maximum heat of the sun; it is characterised by stucco walls and by stone with a cleft finish and glass panels that soften the boundaries between interior and exterior.
In 2008 the new owners arranged an architectural restructuring, fully respecting the original project; for the interiors, however, they privileged contemporary furnishings by leading designers such as Piero Lissoni, Jean Marie Massaud, Konstantin Grcic and Ron Arad, to be perfectly in tune with the still extremely modern image of the building.
In the dining room, furnished with consultancy provided by the By New York showroom, the table is P.04 by Piero Lissoni for Porro, in the black lacquered version, with its surprising proportions and its formal purity, accompanied by Spindle chairs with their harmonious reduced section steel structure and black lacquered seat and back.
In the bedroom, on the other hand, at the feet of the bed is the fun Truffle perforated armchair designed by Jean Marie Massaud, this too black lacquered: informal and highly versatile, it is suitable for all the rooms of the house, as well as being a perfect small armchair for outdoors.
Finally, on the walls and distributed around the park surrounding the villa are the numerous works of art owned by the client, the result being a residence where architecture, design, art and nature live in harmony, establishing a continuous dialogue.
